Ed Mahaffey, ABR

VICE-PRESIDENT

About Ed

Ed Mahaffey is a Vice President and full-time commercial real estate broker with TCI Group–Jerry Petzoldt Agency, Northeast Tennessee’s first and largest commercial real estate firm. He represents property owners, landlords, buyers, tenants, investors and developers throughout the Tri-Cities and surrounding Northeast Tennessee market.

Ed brings clients a distinctive combination of commercial real estate experience and more than 45 years of executive leadership in construction, building materials, manufacturing and industrial operations. This background gives him a practical understanding of commercial properties that extends well beyond the transaction itself. He understands how location, access, utilities, construction requirements, operating costs, supply chains and future expansion can affect the suitability and long-term value of a property.

His areas of focus include industrial and manufacturing facilities, development land, office and retail properties, investment real estate, site selection and commercial leasing. Whether marketing a property for sale, negotiating a lease or helping a business locate its next facility, Ed approaches every assignment with careful analysis, responsive communication and a clear commitment to protecting his client’s interests.

Before entering commercial real estate, Ed built a successful career serving commercial, industrial and construction-related customers across East Tennessee. As Regional Pro Sales Manager for Builders FirstSource—the nation’s largest full-service professional building-material supplier—he directed regional sales operations and developed relationships throughout the construction and development industries. Previously, he served as Vice President of Operations for Tindell’s Building Materials in Knoxville.

Throughout his career, Ed has held leadership responsibilities involving professional sales, contract and supply-chain negotiations, manufacturing, purchasing, financial analysis, budgeting, strategic planning, human resources and facility operations. This breadth of experience enables him to communicate effectively with business owners, corporate decision-makers, contractors, developers and investors—and to recognize operational issues and opportunities that may not be apparent from conventional property information alone.

Ed has completed advanced professional training in Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Process Improvement and APICS Operations Management. His business achievements include the ProSales Excellence in Sales Award and recognition as ProSales “Dealer of the Year.” He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from Tusculum College and was selected for Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

His commitment to Northeast Tennessee extends well beyond his professional work. Ed has served as President of the Credit Bureau of Bristol and President of the Bristol Tennessee Civil Service Commission. He has also served as Secretary and Treasurer of the Kiwanis Club of Kingsport and remains active in community service through Meals on Wheels.

Ed holds the Accredited Buyer’s Representative designation and is a member of the National Association of REALTORS® and the Northeast Tennessee Association of REALTORS®.

Ed believes successful commercial real estate representation begins with listening carefully, communicating candidly and understanding the client’s larger business objectives. He combines local market knowledge, disciplined follow-through and decades of real-world business experience to help clients make informed decisions and achieve successful results.
